While the immediate challenges posed during the first few years of the COVID-19 pandemic have eased, we recognize that our staff are Health Care Heroes every day and offer donors to this fund the opportunity to support them. Donations to this fund provide support to help fulfill the needs of Kootenai Health staff, fund new medical equipment, and support Kootenai Health’s innovative patient care.

In addition to monetary donations, there has been a consistent outpouring of support from the community in the form of treats, gifts, cards and notes to Kootenai Health frontline workers. Those have meant a lot to team members, letting them know the community has their backs today and tomorrow.

Honor an individual caregiver

Sometimes patients ask if there is a way to thank a special caregiver for great care. When our staff exceeds a patient’s expectations, we are often asked how patients can say thank you and give back.

Our Gift of Thanks program provides this opportunity.

History of Health Care Heroes Fund

In early 2020, Kootenai Health’s emergency operations team convened for the first time to discuss the possible threat of a novel coronavirus. No one would have predicted the significance of this new virus to our health care system, our community and our world.

Generous donors wanted to recognize the health care heroes at Kootenai Health who devoted their energy and expertise every single day to serve our community during unprecedented times. From 2020 – 2022, supporters gave more than $1.6 million for our Health Care Heroes Fund, which supported various needs during the pandemic including; a COVID-19 Testing Analyzer, Telehealth Programs, Technology Applications to help patients connect with family, ICU Respiratory Equipment and support for our Health Care Heroes.
